As Decreed by the Most Rev. Manuel Manuel C. Sobreviñas, DD, the COFRADIA DE LA VIRGEN DE LA SOLEDAD DE PORTA VAGA has been established in the year 1998 through the dynamic leadership of the late + ANTONIO G. NAZARENO of Cavite City. Today it is supported by its hundreds of members working together for the strengthening of the devotion to the Virgen de la Soledad, the Queen, Mother and Patroness of the Province of Cavite. The Cofradia is presently lead by its President, Bro. Jonnell Ryan I. Enriquez and Spritual Director, REV. FR. VIRGILIO SAENZ MENDOZA.They are supported by the other seven elected officers and past officers who work hard to keep the devotion alive not only in Cavite but in all parts of the globe.

SYMBOLISM:

The Auspice Maria (AM) Monogram symbolizes the organizations love and dedication to Mary, Our Lady of Solitude.  The Crown of Thorns and the Three Nails, which are also found in front of the Virgin  in the original icon, also symbolize that group's devotion to her Sorrows.  The three (3) stars affirm the Virgin of Solitude's age-old title as the Luz de Filipinas, while the two angels supporting the shield likewise depict the angels found in the original icon.  The Crown that surmounts the shield  and the inscription below give reference to Her affirmed title as the Queen of the Province of Cavite.

TEXT IS AS FOLLOWS:

We, LUIS ANTONIO G. TAGLE, D.D., by the grace of God and favor of the Apostolic See, Bishop of Imus, acting on the petition for Recognition and in accordance with the prescription of the Sacred Canons concerning associations of Christ’s Faithful (Can. 298-311):

WHEREAS, there exists in our Diocese of Imus, a private association called Cofradia de la Virgen de la Soledad de Porta Vaga;

WHEREAS, same private association provides us a copy of its statutes for our review (Can. 299, n. 3);

WHEREAS, said statutes satisfactorily stipulate the conditions necessarily establishing the Cofradia de la Virgen de la Soledad de Porta Vaga as a private association for purposes of fostering a more perfect life, or of promoting public worship of Christian teaching, or of exercising other apostolic works, namely to engage in efforts of evangelization, in particular Marian devotion to the Virgen de la Soledad de Porta Vaga in the Catholic Church, to exercise works of piety or charity, and to animate the temporal order with the Christian spirit (Canons 298, 304, n. 1);

Now, therefore, grant this DECREE OF RECOGNITION.

Henceforth, the same Cofradia de la Virgen de la Soledad de Porta Vaga enjoys the rights and duties of a juridical person (Can. 322) according to the prescriptions of Canons 321- 329 and other related canons and its own statutes.

Given at the Cathedral Parish of Our Lady of the Pillar, Imus, Cavite, this 15th day of August 2009, year of our Lord, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Recovery of the Original Icon of the Virgen de la Soledad de Porta Vaga.
